Default JK Towing Trailer Trailer

Looking to get a trailer for my modified JK 2 door. It's sitting nice on some 37's with some added armor. I know the stock weight is around 3900# so with the added weight I would assume 4500# is a good estimate.

I am fairly sure I want to go with a trailer over a car dolly or flat towing cause when I go to the trails I REALLY go to the trails. If I break something that isn't feasible to fix on the trails then I need a reliable way to get my JK home.

My tow rig is a 2016 4runner with a tow rating of about 5000-5500# so I need a fairly light trailer to haul the Jeep. Any suggestions?

EDIT: The Jeep in my profile pic is not what I am towing. I sold that a while ago and I haven't updated the picture

You probably want to consider an aluminum trailer to keep the weight down. I just bought a 7x14 v-nose enclosed trailer with aluminum frame. It was $7k out the door. This was to haul & garage a dune buggy. Of course an open trailer will be much more economical. You'll likely want to install a winch up front in case the Jeep gets too disabled to drive onto it.

The max tow rating on that year was 5,000 lbs, but depending on options that number is often reduced to 4,500 or 4,700 lbs. There is no safe or legal way to tow your JK aside from maybe a U-Haul style car dolly. My JK on my steel trailer is right under 8,000 lbs, I tow it with a Ram Hemi 3.92 gears that is rated at 9,640 max gross trailer. You have the wrong tool for the job.

How much does your trailer weigh?

I realize I will be pushing the limit which is why I am asking if anyone knows of a trailer that would suit my needs. My problem with a car dolly is that many of them struggle with 37's and, depending on what I damage, the dolly might not be a feasible way to tow the rig home (just thinking of the worst case scenario. I do not expect for it to be that unusable but you never know ).

My trailer weighs 1800 pounds. I'm sure an open trailer would weight less.

Rob, You misunderstood his request. He is talking about putting his JK on a trailer and towing it. You show your JK towing an 1,800 lb trailer.

There is no way for him to put a 4,500-4,700 LB JK on a trailer.... aluminum or not... and legally towing it with his little Toyota that is rated at 5,000 max, and likely less depending on options.

A bare stock JK is just under 4,000 lbs with a human ass in one seat. Add bumpers, winch, armor, tools and accessories and maybe a second person and you get near 5,000 lbs real quick. Now you need a trailer rated at 7,000 gross, gross being the weight of that JK and the trailer itself. There is no safe or legal way for him to do this.

I digress. Do what you wish. Out.

I did not misunderstand. He asked me how much my trailer weighed. I told him and included a picture. I fully understand his intent and I agree his tow vehicle is likely not adequate unless a tow dolly is used.
