Major Humming After Light Bar Install
Hey Y'all. My buddy and I installed a light bar the other day. (Ok he did I just handed him the tools) and now I have a MAJOR humming/whining noise. It gets louder the faster I go. Can it be the location of the ground wire? Or from the wire cables being to close to something else? HELP!!!! It's annoying. Should be a new torture method for the government.
Can you hear the hum when you are not moving? If so check your power wire routing in relation to where your radio antenna is.
Can you hear the hum only while moving? If so this is more than likely the location of the light bar and the disturbance of air around it. The only way to make it go away is to create a more aerodynamic surface for the wind to go around.
Hope this helps.

You don't say where the light bar is installed and that would be a factor. I installed a 32" light bar above the windshield and had a loud hum above about 30MPH. It was a harmonic vibration of the cooling fins on the light bar. I wedged small pieces of rubber drip tubing between the fins in the middle of the light bar and it eliminated the hum.
It's the wind blowing on the fins along the bac of the light bar. There's a few threads already of the fix if you do some searching. I fixed mine with adhesive rubber door seal cut into 4 sections stuck into like the 3-4 fin from the bottom all the way across U want to be blocking all of the above find from the wind that traveling up the windshield. Then I got door trim from autozone and places the sporadically along the top fins. Fixed everything.

Here's a pic to help. Those clips I had ordered from rigid industries there supposed to prevent humming of the fins like a tune fork but bc the fins are slightly different on off brand light bars, they barely fit but there not coming out. I'm also not convinced they made a huge difference. They cut down on the low pitched vibration but majority of the humming and whistling was fixed with the door trim and seal

I think the JCR mounts maybe?
One if the manufacturer mounts sit the bar a little lower to help with turbulence.
Maybe someone can chime in and verify?

I've heard that certain mounts help eliminate the noise also. I think the JCR mounts maybe? One if the manufacturer mounts sit the bar a little lower to help with turbulence. I purchased one of the cheap ones of ebay. It is a made in china job, but purchased from a US seller. The mounts seem like good quality and fit well. The way they were designed the light bar set about 2 or 3 inches above the roof line. It caused TERRIBLE wind noise in the freedom tops. I suspect it is because the wind coming over it caused a lift effect, much like a wing on a race car. This caused it to sound like the tops were not latched down. So I drilled new holes in the brackets so the light bar set slightly below the roof line and a lot closer to the windshield. This totally cured the wind noise, but then I had the bad harmonic whistle. I used the door trim protection stuff that comes in a roll, and stuffed it between the cooling fins on the the bottom side of the light bar. I did not do anything to the top side of the bar. It totally fixed the whistle. I suspect it is about the same as putting the drip tube in the space. Drop tube is probably cheaper. I dont have the light hooked up yet, so cant speak to the quality of light output, but happy with the way the light looks and with the sound now that it has been modified.
