Default Should I wait for the 2018 model or buy a 2017?

I am currently driving a TJ and am going to purchase a JK within the next year. Not sure if I will do it before this next spring or later in summer. My question is that I have found very little information on what the 2018 will be, but not coming up with much. Maybe it's just too early, I don't know. I like the current 2016,17 model, but really would like to know what information is out there on what changes (if any) will be for the 2018 JK. I'm most likely going to buy the Unlimited Rubicon, but that will depend on how much more the new model goes up in price, if I even want the 2018.

Any information that anyone has, I would very much appreciate it if you would pass it on.

Cheers,

Scott

The 2018 will be a new model the JL.
If the pitchers are right on the home page it will be " UGLY " they put a renagade front grill on it :(
I've heard 3 engines a 4 cyl. turbo , diesel , and the current 3.6l
but if it looks like the photo I would go for the JK my self.

But I do not know if " anything " I just wrote is " fact " accept it will be a new model the JL

If you like the 3.6 then no need to wait. If you want the diesel then hold out and see what happens.

Its pretty much guaranteed that the JL will improve on creature comforts but I don't think you have anything to lose in waiting since the JK & JL will be produced along side each other at first. As mentioned prior the diesel is the biggest wait on item otherwise it will be the 8spd auto if your an auto trans person. The bigger question is whether you want to consider the pickup version.

Buy a 15- save a ton of cash over the newer years and get essentially all the same features. I'd pass on the 18 until the quirks of the new model are worked out.

The JK is going to be initially built at the same time as the JL. I believe a 6 month overlap is what I read. Probably won't get a new model year but the JL could cause for some incentives on the outgoing JK

Default New 18?

They still don't have the bugs out of the 16 models. The 18, for the most part is BRAND NEW and it will be full of BUGS and GLITCHES. Save your money and your grief and pick up a 16 or 17.

The current plan told on Jeepgarage by guys working for Jeep is that the diesel won't be out until the 2019 model year. 2018 will include a turbo 4 cyl and an upgraded 3.6. 2019 or 2020 will add a pickup. Also stated is that the pictures of the renegade like design were potential candidates that didn't make it to the final design but we really don't know yet.

I've been intrigued with people debating this idea lately. I'm glad I'm not close to thinking about that myself as it has to be a tough decision. The JK is awesome and you know what you're getting. Not even knowing what the JL is going to look like right now makes it hard. I'm afraid of not liking the looks as much as the JK. Then there's also that concern of buying the first year of a model change. It seems like a real crap shoot once more solid information starts coming out and/or they start hitting the lots if the last of the JK's will get gobbled up quickly or stagnate on the lot. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a JK, but that would kinda stink to buy a new '17, have the JL be a big hit, and have your "new" rig be outdated quickly. LOL. Good luck with the decision!

I tend to agree with Saharaharry.....if you like the JK and the 3.6L, buy a '15 or so, save some money up front, and put that in to mods. Take the known quantity over the unkown.
