Mixing grease brands ok?

I believe I read somewhere a bit back that mixing grease brands is not recommended. If so, why? And if they do get mixed, how detrimental to the components is this really? I'm asking because it's about time for my first greasing of pretty much everything with a zerk under the jeep and I have no idea what was put in them from the shop the first time around.

Mixing some grease types can cause the grease mixture to turn into an abrasive.

You will have to do a google search on mixing grease. You should be able to find info on grease compatibility.

Otherwise, you will have to purge the old grease as best as you can.

Most modern greases are lithium-based, and are compatible.Specialty greases and old "soap" based greases are the exception. The old MBs & CJs had 52 grease fittings, thats why they lasted (if maintained) How many on the JK? :dontknow2:
