My First in Person Experience with a JK 4-door
My son was being a little crazy and needed to get out of the house. Got home from work and used it as an excuse to finally take a 15 minute drive down to the nearest Jeep dealership. Got out and asked if they had any JK 4-doors, they said yes and took me inside. They had a 4 door Sahara, red with the freedom top. They mentioned more where coming soon. Asked about testing driving it and they said they would let me know when they had more so I could test drive it.
Either way I got some time with it, looking inside, underneath, and at the engine. You'll see the pictures below. (they are taken with a camera phone so quality is not so good).
My son had a blast jumping in and out of all the Trucks so I didn't get as much time as I want just with the 4 door. I want to get a JK Rubicon Unlimited in a couple of months. While I was back and forth with my son and trying to get some time with the JK there was another guy looking at the JK. As we where about to leave the dealership started moving the cars on the floor and took the 4-door outside. I thought, thats wierd they are letting this other guy take it for a test drive. So I followed it outside and started up a conversation with the other guy outside about the truck. Come to find out he bought it, lol. Wasn't there 20 minutes a someone walks in and buys the only 4-door on the lot. If I would have been an hour later I would have not been able to see it.
2 things that struck me when looking over the truck. The back compartment wasn't as big as I expected. Not a big deal but a little disappointed. The 2nd was the gas tank. The gas tank is all along the passengers side from the back up to the front passengers seat. Thats some major exposure for rocks making dents (others have mentioned this), but it seemed like a probably problem.
What do you guys think about options to protect the gas tank? I haven't seen the rock sliders that come with the Rubicon maybe that will help protect a little.
if somebody has one can they take some pics?
Either way I see some cases where you get in a situation where the under carriage would be highly likely to get some rock damage on the gas tank before hitting the rock sliders. I think the lieft and 35" will help this out though.
Overall I am still impressed with the truck and hope to spend some more time with it in the near future.

I've got a bunch of underside shots here:

As far as the gas tank goes, I know of several manufacturers working on a beefed up skid for it now. Although, I doubt it'll be taking the same kind of beating the old TJ, YJ and CJ's did coming off of a rock ledge.
