The OP refers to the Lifetime Warranty which was given free on 2007 and 2008 Wranglers only. This is not the same as any added warranty you might purchase.
I've never had to use mine. It's not transferable - original owners only, and there probably aren't too many JK's that still qualify.
I recently collected on new front brake hoses I was forced to replace two years ago to pass state inspection. Out of the blue, JEEP wrote to offer either replacement or repayment for my earlier replacement due to a safety issue. If YOU have a repair that might remotely be a safety issue, contact JEEP and ask about it.

This is from the Jeep warranty publication from back then:
At the expiration of the 3 year/36,000 mile Basic Limited Warranty, Chrysler Motors LLC extends to the original purchaser or retail lessee of each 2006 model year, 2007 model year, 2008 model year, and 2009 model year Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep vehicle sold and delivered on or after July 26, 2007 limited powertrain warranty for the lifetime of that original purchaser or retail lessee.

I really wish I could have taken advantage of this for my lower intake manifold gasket that was leaking. I missed my 5 year inspection, so I didn't even try. I just went ahead and did it myself. Gaskets weren't expensive but the time taking it apart and putting it together wasn't all that fun.

Yup, mine is an 09, and I've had one 5yr check, due 2019 for the next.
It's a little more than just those two model years.
