Is that beyond the normal 8 year/80,000 mile warranty for the cats?

The OP refers to the Lifetime Warranty which was given free on 2007 and 2008 Wranglers only. This is not the same as any added warranty you might purchase.

I've never had to use mine. It's not transferable - original owners only, and there probably aren't too many JK's that still qualify.

I recently collected on new front brake hoses I was forced to replace two years ago to pass state inspection. Out of the blue, JEEP wrote to offer either replacement or repayment for my earlier replacement due to a safety issue. If YOU have a repair that might remotely be a safety issue, contact JEEP and ask about it.

It's a little more than just those two model years.

This is from the Jeep warranty publication from back then:

At the expiration of the 3 year/36,000 mile Basic Limited Warranty, Chrysler Motors LLC extends to the original purchaser or retail lessee of each 2006 model year, 2007 model year, 2008 model year, and 2009 model year Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep vehicle sold and delivered on or after July 26, 2007 limited powertrain warranty for the lifetime of that original purchaser or retail lessee.

It's easy to miss a deadline like that, people move and get busy... On the flip side, it's a nice feeling when you know it's done right, and you did it yourself.

Yup, mine is an 09, and I've had one 5yr check, due 2019 for the next.

Did the above post state he was getting a new catalytic converter for free under the lifetime power train warranty?
