New Jeep: Can't Decide Between...
Shopping for a new JKU and I'm having trouble deciding between a Rubicon or a Rhino Smokey Mountain that I fell for.
I never plan to do any hardcore rock climbing up ledges or anything like that, just playing in the mud or an occasional rocky scenic byway in Colorado. I'll probably never exceed a 33" tire.
Will the Smokey Mountain with 3.73's and Trac-Lock rear suffice?
If I do get the Rubi, will I notice much drivability difference between 3.73 & 4.10? Any notable gas mileage difference?
Thanks in advance.

If you get an automatic, the rubicon comes with 3.73 gears unless you order it with 4.10. As far as gas mileage and drivability, I can't really say. What I can say is that if it were me and I could afford either of those two Jeeps I would go with the rubicon. I know when I had a sport I always found myself wishing I had lockers. Now I have a rubicon and am happy!

Which One?
One is a DESIGNER model, the other is the RUBICON, what is there to say? The Rubi will definitely hold it's own the other is based on a Sahara which is nothing to sneeze at. If close in price, I'd go Rubi.

I'd choose the Rubicon myself. I don't value any of the superficial accents and such of the special edition models though. I'd rather have the lockers and disconnecting sway bar.....especially if you're not going to mod it much. Out of the box it will be a fully capable rig, perfect for what it sounds like you'll use it for. I would much rather have lockers that never got used than need lockers that I don't have.....especially if you go explore any of those colorado roads by yourself. You never know what circumstances you'll find yourself in.

My wife and I both have Rubi's and my 6 other friends with JK's (all sports or sierra's) all wish they had gotten a Rubicon instead. Go with the Rubi and 4.10 gears from the start.

Didn't catch right away that you were in Northlake. I'm just a bit southwest of you. Work downtown Fort Worth and live just a tad to the west of loop 820.
