o2 sensor

the engine light came on and i plugged my hand held tester in and the code came up o2 sensor.the only problem i have is after climbing under my jeep i noticed what looked like 2 o2 sensors on each side of exhaust system.i am not sure these are all o2 sensors, but i dont have a shop manual and im not going to replace all four, any thoughts?thanks

You should have 4 o2 sensors, that's normal. Your code reader should point to a particular bank in which case you can replace the faulty one. Use only Mopar or NGK sensors, jeeps don't play well with Bosch for oxygen checking.

Your profile says you have a 2018 JK -- Is that correct?

If the codes are still on then go to your local auto parts store and see if they'll read them for you- usually a free service and most stores do it.

Alternatively, you can cycle the key from off to on and on the third turn (towards on), leave it in the run position- the jeep should spit some numbers out at you. Please note- doors/ gates should be closed otherwise it may not show you the codes.

My understanding is that there is a re-call on the 2009 to 2011 Jeeps O2 sensors. Found this out a month ago at the smog station. You might want to look into that.

Be sure to read through the thread as folks added in suggestions, most especially if you have an auto transmission (I have a manual).

Edit: It looks like something broke the links to my images. Here's another write-up using my original images that may help clear up a few questions ...
