Default SERYOGA-not to get in a pissing contest but...

#1- Yes there are exceptions to every situation #2- You can and Will burn up a clutch extremely fast if operating the vehicle incorrectly. I've driven manual tranny cars since 1962, been a professional auto repairman since 1978, was an aircraft mechanic prior to that- and I can tell you from personal day to day repair experience that a clutch can be burned up to the point of ruination in less than 2 minutes of abuse. #3- Most clutches can and DO last most of the lifetime of the vehicles they are installed in- if driven on the street. Drive it off road or get it stuck in mud or snow, you are talking about two different animals. #4- I owned a YJ , replaced the tranny at 160,000, the clutch looked NEW, so I know what you are talking about. Street driving simply does not place the loads on a clutch that off roading can and does. #5- put this paragraph into context- it's referring to normal wear and tear- NOT abuse. A burned up clutch and flywheel assembly is considered abuse and it will NOT be covered unless the chrysler rep OK's it or the vehicle is written up by the dealership to hide the true situation. Let's agree to disagree, I can only comment on what I KNOW to be true from personal experience working at dealerships for over 30 years. I respect your perspective....

Well, i guess it depends on persons communication skills.

When i towed my broken Jeep into service dept., i was wearing cargo pants and a hoodie, and didn't really chat the asst mgr, except for "hi, my jeep is broken"

After they told me i will have to pay $1200 to fix it, i called Chrysler, and spoke with all kinds of managers over the phone. After a month and a half, i said enough of this shit, put my suit on, got my tie on, camera, briefcase, and went to the dealership. Me, Service Manager, and Assistant Manager got together in a room. I opened my briefcase, pulled out a camera and a piece of paper and a pen. And told them i need to take pictures of the tranny, and want the Manager to write a letter explaining why they are refusing warranty on 4 month old Jeep with 5000miles, sign and date it. I told them that i need all that for my Lawyer and BBB. His immediate response was "Let me talk with Chrysler Rep (who magically was there that day and time) and see what i can do. Keep in mind that for month and a half they kept telling me that the same Rep declined my warranty. He came back in 2-3 minutes and said that Chrysler will pay for all the repairs, and apologized for the inconvenience.

PS: I'm sorry if i offended you in my previous post, i really meant no disrespect.

In all honesty... I will pay for the clutch... but will trade off my Jeep as soon as I drive it away from the dealer. I have a buddy that is a Toyota tech and he's gonna hook me up with an FJ. I love my Jeep and would choose Jeep over any other vehicle on the road... but I refuse to deal with a company that could give 2 F***Ks about my business or happiness as a customer.

I understand that abuse isn't covered. I am a reasonable guy, I had to wait 3 days to get a tow, it sat there for an extra 2 weeks because somebody there in thier finite wisdom ordered a crank sensor for the 06. I also didn't complain when the told me I could go rent a car because they already gave out thier 2 loaner cars.... I never once raised my voice, threaten anybody or changed from my normal demenor... but I still got treated like crap and as for the verbal instructions... well, the tech did write them down and there was no request on any workorder to have them replace it... but that isn't the point... The owner did call me today and asked me to call him so we could work out a deal.

My concern is this... there has been 2 previous issues with the clutch. Once I was there because the clutch would be released over 2/3's the way before engaging... they took it back and said nothing was wrong... but then suddenly worked better... second time, was for a cracked clutch housing... leaking tranny fluid everywhere... ie clutch plates...

I really appreciate everyone's input... will keep you posted!

I would fight them to the end. Especially the 2 times they neglected to look into to clutch problem closer. And when it finally broke just say that its your fault.
