Question Oil Pressure Sensor failed after service

Hey Everyone,

Took my '08 JKU Sahara in for Powertrain Warranty repair (still valid!). Needed some seals and gaskets replaced...no big deal, but glad to have the work done via warranty. When the shop called me once the repair was complete, they said the oil pressure sensor was no longer functioning. The engine was building and holding pressure just fine, but the sensor now needs replacing. It was working fine when I dropped it off. They needed to pull it as part of the service. They're claiming it was a coincidental failure due to the age of the part and they did nothing to damage it. They diagnosed it and the reader is throwing a code saying it's internal sensor error. Roughly a $450 repair at the dealership.

Questions: Is it reasonable for them to not replace the part that was working before it was dropped off? It's awful coincidental that it happened to go bad during them doing the job, right? The service manager said, "We're an honest shop and wouldn't claim we didn't damage it if we actually didn't damage it. My BS meter is going off.

Welcome to JKF. Who paid for the sensor? You or dealer? My guess is the probably busted it while removing/installing. If you have to pay for it get the old sensor from them.

I refused to have them replace it, especially at a $450+ cost to repair when they obviously should be responsible for the replacement. I gave the service manager the following analogy:

I'm a contractor called to do ceiling repair on a client's home. I need to remove a fully functional light fixture to perform the repair. After the repair is complete and I re-install the light fixture, I find it no longer works. It is my responsibility to bring the client's home (light fixture) back up to the condition it was in when I started the job.

He said, "That's not how we do things here", and "It's not going to happen".

Everything was very civil, but I find it hard to believe that this was 1) ok and 2) legal.

I took the jeep and left.
