I was wondering if anyone has tried these shocks? Is the manual adjustability a gimmick or are they actually good shocks?

"Overland Journal" rated them their top shock in a recent comparison test. They ran on just one setting to keep the test "fair" (others weren't adjustable). Seems to me your question about "gimmicky" is moot.
