Default Is this a scam?

Found an '07 Unlimited Rubi with only 8,500 miles on it. Fully loaded and the guy's only asking $19,000. Haven't done a Carfax report yet as I don't want to throw away my money until I'm more sure I'd buy it, here's where it sounds fishy. I did a Google search on the VIN and came up with a couple old ads on the same vehicle listed about 4 months ago in Tennessee for about $30,000 through a used car dealer, with the same mileage that's currently advertised now. Guy claims he's getting divorced and needs to liquidate and split all cash and assets with the wife. He said he wants to do the deal through an Escrow Company. When I asked him about the Google search hits he claimed no knowledge. I asked him for his phone number to call him and haven't heard back yet.

Sounds fishy to me, do a CarFax for sure, or hold off until he calls back if you doing this as a one off check.

Sounds like a scam. Besides I would never buy a jeep without giving it a complete check up in person first. Why spend $20K based on what you saw in a few pictures. What happens when you get it home(provided the sale is legit) and find evidence of water damage in the cab, fusebox etc. The jeep could have been driven into deep water and the guy is selling it before everything corrodes.

Oh, I'd go and see it first for sure. Haven't seen the offer of a Escrow Company before, not sure if that's normal in the US, certainly isn't up here in Canada.

Strange.

Always good to get a certified inspection done, by a shop of your choice.

If you DO get it, right on!

He doesn't even have the Jeep, he's probably copied the VIN number off a jeep he looked at on the lot. That's why the conflicting information is coming up when you are checking out the info. This guy is angling a way to seperate you from your money.....

Yeah, 14 hours later and he still hasn't responded to my email asking for his phone number to discuss.

I thought those scams usually stayed below a certain amount so potential buyers wouldn't be getting loans.
Once loans are involved, banks are involved, and the banks would sniff out the scam pretty quick.

Two thoughts come to mind.......There is nothing free in this world, and you get what you paid for. This smells pretty fishy to me.
