Check you st. laws,, by removing the fenders you might open yourself up to liability.. Anything coming off your tires on the highway and hitting another vehicle.. By removing and having no tire coverage for a street driven vehicle you are risking a lot.. Here in Pa and in NJ if you drive a big truck you are liable for anything that comes off your rig or from your tires if your flaps aren't there. Our company was cited and had to pay for several windshields due to a rear flap that came off our flatbed and when it went out on rt80 some rocks came out of the treads from the gravel driveway it was on.. of course they got the name and # off the truck.. fun day that was...

I want some river raider crusher corners and attach a tire cage from the rear to a full protection around the corners and then the fenders. I have it drawn up now all i need is money.
Before doing anything, I'd go to your state's web stie and look around for any type of laws that may impact what you want to do.

I know here in WA state, the WA State Police have a brochure that highlights the rules for a variety of vehicles.

In this state you must have (paraphrasing):
1. Doors with latches! (haven't figured out if the safari doors are legal or not)
2. Bumpers that extend all the way to the outside of your tire tread
3. Bumpers must have 4.5 inches of vertical edge on the front and back (read this as: tube bumpers are illegal!)
4. Mud flaps must extend down to the center of your wheel

And a bunch of other crazy (stupid) rules!

Although these are law, I've yet to see or hear of anyone getting stopeed here in eastern WA. As for western WA, yes, they do get stopped and citations written!

So beware!!!!!

FOR THE MUD FLAPS .. IT HAS TO HIT YOUR AXLE ... I got pulled over for it about 4 years ago, in my husbands old F350 ... they cited me, and just gave me a warning ...

as for the doors without latches .... no one in W. Wa I saw ever got pulled over for going doorless and the bumper ... lots of people ran stubbys .. at least that i saw and never got pulled over.

Our old XJ also had no fender, but it was just a trail rig, driving to and from all the wheeling spots. NEVER got pulled over.

I GUESS it really comes down to the cops in your area and who your dealing with and how big a 'real' cop they want to be at that time and what they wanna deal with.

As many have said it really is a state law issue. Just be aware, even if you don't have any type of inspection, it doesn't mean there aren't laws requiring coverage, so check first!
