Default Is this tire mountable?

hey guys. i got a set of tires of a buddy of mine, but one has a chunk out of it right near the inside lip. do you think it will be able to be mounted, and if it can, do you think it will hold air?

cosmetically it looks bad, but i think it would be ok. As long as no steel belts are broken and no thread looking fibers are torn. i would personally mount it as a spair and leave it there just for peace of mind, but it hard to tell from pics, take it to a tire shop and ask them what they think

good luck

I'd bet a dollar the tire shop won't mount it if they inspect that tire first unless you have a buddy that can mount it as a spare. . . .

Sidewall damage is the worst since it cannot generally be repaired.

hmm well these tires are for off road only, so if it will hold air and work ok, i think ill try to use it. ive seen low profile tires on benz's that have bigger chucks missing in the same spot. now i will just have to find a place that will mount it...

I wouldn't use it, not even as a spare. Although there appears to be no damage to the belts, there is also no protection over them either. It won't be long before they begin to degrade. just my opinion, but any sidewall damage, and I will would not use the tire. My life is valued higher than a $200.00 tire.

Without the tire in front of me, it's a tough call. If it is as deep as it LOOKS, I would NOT use it......even for a spare as someone else indicated. Now, if you put a tube in it, then maybe.....for a spare.

I don't think I would tie it to a tree with a rope to let the kids swing on it....Don't risk your rig on a marginal tire.

Yeah? How many tires have you seen blow off a rim? I've been in the business almost thirty years. I've seen someone MAIMED from mounting something similar. You ready to accept the responsibility for telling him to mount it? Not me brother. Not in a million years. That tire is dangerous. I see why you USED to work in a tire shop.

Thanks for the info mate, and you can be assured, I'll never come to your shop.

hard to say from just the pic, could be ok for trails, the sealing area of the bead itself looks fine, just above it looks bad. Wouldn't trust it on the road though, and on any 3-5 level trails I'd probably not use it.
