Kicking around the idea of going with just a hard top because I am going with an aftermarket soft Top either ORH or Besttop is there a downside to ordering just the hardtop vs dual top option??

You can find used hardtops all the time on this forum for a great price. Why not just get a hardtop and maybe a bikini top for summer incase it rains. Guess it depends on where you live....

Well I could look around for a used hard top however I know I am going with an after market soft top so I just figured at least get the hard top when I ordered and buy the soft top when the weather breaks. I had the stock soft top on my 05 and just would rather go with something else. And I know I will need it to come with a top so save the money on the dual top and get what I want. But I will keep my options open.

FWIW, my 2011 Rubicon came fully loaded except that it only had the hard top, not the dual top option. I preferred it that way for a variety of reasons.

1. While you can find used hard tops, they are rather pricey (like $1400 and up).
2. You can find plenty of used soft tops for reasonable prices. I picked one up for $250 on craigs list that the owner never installed!
3. I prefer the look of some of the aftermarket tops. I just got a new Bestop Trektop NX and haven't even had a chance to install it. Maybe this weekend! If I like it more than the factory top, then I will unload that. I like that the Trektop NX will serve as a bikini top, has the sunrider option, and the fastback look is sporty. That said, I am concerned that complete removal/storage might not be as good as the factory top. I'll be happy to post my conclusions after I play with it.

I hope that helps.

I never had a softtop on my 2009 only a hardtop. Got the new trektop NX installed and love the look but the sunrider feature does not fold back over the rear passenger a in my 4 door and the tailgate bar stinks.

I pick up my 2012 tomorrow and I glad I got dual tops and will just switch them out when I want a feature over the other

I got just the hard top. I have no problems taking it off or putting it on at needed.
