He's towing across HOT, hilly Nevada versus flat, temperate Michigan. I'd recommend a tranny cooler as well.

Out of curiosity, what's the deal with U-Haul not renting to jeeps with a soft top? What's the reasoning behind this?

I think it's the same reasoning as why they won't rent to a Ford Explorer either. I read about insurance issues from a faulty tire blow-out on 1990(s) Explorers so now they have blacklisted renting to them. Probably the same (safety) insurance issues with the jeep having a removable top. But this is just m/o

I brought my son back from college in my jku 2010. Only went a couple of hundred miles, but did not have any problems. At the time I did not have a trans cooler. Though I do now and for $60 they are not to bad to install. Uhaul rented the 5 x 8! Trailer to me with a soft top. No questions asked. 90 degree weather and mostly flat ground.

I towed a 5'x8 trailer about 3000kms from Eastern Ontario to Western Alberta in my 2 doors with 3.21 gears.

The jeep was packed and so was the trailer, we had to leave a lot of stuff back it was so packed. The jeep did ok, i would not do it again with that much weight, hills were horrible. Went ftom 60mph to about 30mph in 5 seconds as soon as i hit a slope.

Before the trip

Reviving the old thread. Have pulled their 6x12 with my 2-door. Not too bad but being a bit over 2000lbs, it needed to be kept under 60-65mph for stability. I do have the mopar trans cooler for the 4 speed auto. It's an '08 auto with 4.88 and 35" tires, 3.5 AEV.

About to haul a 5X10 trailer with 4 wheeler - 16 hr drive. What size ball drop did you use on your hitch? I've got a 2.5 AEV lift and 35's and when I measure I get about 9 1/4 "
