Default Why not a stubby?

I was looking through the usual catalogs the other day for a new bumper. I don't need one for offroad use as I don't crawl and mine is fine except for a dent in the left front where someone creased it in a parking lot (cosmetic and in reality does not matter to me) however I want one. I was showing the wife a few and she happened to say if you get one you can't get one like that (she was pointing at a stubby). Her reasoning was if someone hits it agian like what has already happened it will not be a bumper but a tire that has to be replaced. Of course I had nothing to say back because she hit me with what I can see is great logic. Has anyone had this happen? I know the pros of a stubby but what are the real cons (aside from the stock bumper catching some of the mud).

if someone hits you that hard is the plastic bumper really going to stop them? The metal inside only extends around 4 to 6 inches past the frame rails.

Odds are if there's an impact on the front, its going to be you hitting them.

Obviously there are exceptions but its not going to be the same as if your rear bumper gets hit.. where the odds are someone else hit you.

Yeah in an accident I can see that except that mine happened in a parking lot already. I guess I am just shocked that for once my wife said no and I could not inteligently argue back.

I'd be more worried about damage to the other attached parts of the Jeep than the tire itself.

Just tell her that an impact like that in a parking lot is so rare that it's like lightning striking in the same place twice.

Default rubber is bouncy

Just be careful, if you hit someone, your tire may go up their hood.

Jeeps can be a Jerk if your not careful

primarily...

as for hitting the front bumper... the worst feeling is coming out of a mall (insert jokes here) or store and seeing that someone backed into your jeep (b/c you back into spots) when they were leaving (and of course they dont leave a note)... with the factory bumper you would have a nice dent... with a steel bumper... a couple scratches and their rear bumper b/c your d-ring shackles went in a pulled it off!

But the reason for a stubby if basically (as far as i know) for wheel / bumper clearance... i dont do any severe crawling... i just like the looks of it

Yeah it is for me usually but this time it was like a punch in the face. Sort of a why didn't I think of that moment. I still may go with a stubby once she gets back to work however I also have to make Momma happy so who knows.

that's why I got this one. I wanted the stubby also but my wife said the same thing. Predicting this before hand I showed her this one and she said nothing but I like that one. Attachment 6089
