Why white letters in?
It's just personal preference. Personally, I hate trying to clean the white letters and think it looks better with the black out. When you offroad, those white letters will get dirty and eventually start to wear off.
My guess is most people just like the look of an all black wheel, or maybe the blacked out look. My Jeep is Jeep Green (Dark Green) and all the trim and decals and wheels are black, so itd look a little off IMO if the white letters were out.
I agree with Wazoo...it's hard to keep them clean. Just think of all the sticky mud that would shade the letters darker, but worse yet...think of how the rocks when crawling would scrape against it and make it look like crap!
Almost every Wrangler has their tires mounted white letters in. Why is this? Is it like a guy with an ear ring...get it in the wrong ear and it means your gay? I mounted mine white letters out. I just like the look.

I have mine in, since they white letters get dirty and tore out on the trail, eventually it looks terrible.
