Calif fire road closure...DETOUR
 

Went out to view the charred hilside and found that Modjeska and Silverado are closed at both the top and bottom...so we went off Ortega, made the big loop at the top of Ortega....AWESOME trail.

That's my favorite "close to home" place to go. I thought all of the trails in CNF were still closed. Do you know what trail(s) you were on? From the top of Ortega I'm guessing you got on Main Divide - did it go all the way through or did you detour onto Indian Truck Trail, or a different one?

Thought you were on Cleghorn when I saw the big lake, but it does look as though you were on Main Divide... how much is open???

Hmmm...I went the CNF website and see that they just opened portions on Saturday.

Looks like Main Divide is open from this side right up to Indian. But that's not a loop, Indian goes out to 15. :thinking:

I'm suprized any of it is open yet.:thinking: :crazyeyes:

Main Divide
 

Yep alot is open...but you cannot enter into Silverado or Modjeska. Those gates are closed at both ends. This trip started at just past Hells Kitchen on Ortega, heading into Elsinore, at the top of the grade you make a left turn.....then that road divides. You either go left to the campgrounds or turn right.....which takes you down to Indian Truck. After you get out at Indian Truck...you then you take the trail up to where you catch the trail to go to Main Divide...into the burn area....but at the gate (which is closed) you veer left....and you end up an hr later on the other road that originally went to the campground that....was at the beginning. ...back to Ortega.

Sounds confusing....but isn't that what riding the trails is all about.....who cares where you end up?
