Utah/Wyoming border toward Flaming Gorge
I-80 is the normal way to get from Salt Lake to Evanston and Flaming Gorge so naturally I wanted to find another way. I noticed there was a road that went along the southwestern corner of Wyoming that was just a hop and a skip from the freeway. Figured it was a good place to visit. Turns out there's a monument there.

Streams swelled, deep mud everywhere... But its so damn pretty. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0683.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0684.jpg About seven miles into it we ran into a fallen tree blocking the trail. Heavy winds and soggy ground was the probable cause. Turn around? No way. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0689.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0690.jpg Used the winch, moved the damn thing out of the path. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0687.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0691.jpg Pulled it just enough to pass to the right. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0694.jpg Would you believe I had to do this a second time just a mile down the trail? Wife was pretty pissed, didn't take pics that time. Saw a heard of elk, drove through a stream up to the bottom of the Jeep's doors. Had one angry wife because what should have taken 3 hours took 6. But it was worth it and I would not have taken another path. Sometimes the journey is better than the destination. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0696.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/100_0695.jpg |
We finally made it to camp. The KOA at Manila Utah, near the Flaming Gorge reservoir. Very muddy Jeep.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMAG0487.jpg Like usual, the Utah weather was unpredictable... Hail. Lots of damn hail. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMAG0493.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMAG0494.jpg |
Very nice, well other than the hail.

where did you start at? im sure there is a way from Mirror Lake HWY headed east toward China Meadows etc. I would love to take some scenic routes in the area.

We started at Coalville and took a small road up toward the corner of Wyoming.
