Default 2009 X stock 16” wheels - how big can I go?

ok been reading through this forum for past two days as well as other articles and all kinds of contradictions. I have a blank slate stock 2009 X with 16” wheels. I’m going to need new tires soon but don’t want to do anything else to the vehicle right now. It will be all road driving at this time. I was wanting to try 315/75r16 but don’t want to buy them and then have clearance/rubbing issues and forced to do something to make them fit. Thinking 305/70r16 is probably more feasible but I don’t know.
Do I need a different size to make this fit properly? 285/75s?
I dont want to lift - yet
i don’t want to trim fender flares
i don’t want to buy spacers unless absolutely necessary.

has anyone else done this? I’m finding all kinds for 17” wheels but I want to keep the 16” steelies.

I know there is a wealth of knowledge here and would love to tap into it. I might have missed a thread telling me what I want to know but like I said I’ve been looking and searching for two days and when I think I found it it seems to be clear as mud or contradicts something else I’ve read.

I ran Rubi take offs. You can get them pretty cheap for a set of 5 wheels and tires.

315/75r16 is going to be way too big for stock. That basically a 35 x 12.5. You'd need at least a leveling kit and some wheel spacers for those to fit (and probably still rub some)
305/70r16 is probably going to be a bit wide as well, it's only a 33 but 12" wide so some spacers would prevent rubbing at full turn.
285/75 would be your best bet for keeping everything else stock.

I think even with 285's you might need a washer at the steering stops to keep from rubbing the swaybar/airdam.

that’s what I was wondering. Been told 35s will fit on stock but wasn’t sure about that.

I mean... they'll fit... until you try to turn or hit a bump. At which point you'll rip you stock fenders off.

The wheelwells are big enough, but this will also depend on proper backspace, and flat fenders/no fenders, and trimming, and bumpstops, and ...

Zero modifications and zero chance of rubbing, look at 32" take-offs from a rubicon or sahara or whatever.
