Default NEW WHEELS, Tire size suggestions....

Hello. Happy Monday!

I just purchased a new set of wheels for my JK. However, I'm unsure on what tire size. I'm a little confused as I've called a few shops asking for prices on sizes that people run on here (285/70/17) but the shops (two) said this size doesn't work on my stock rig.

Here is a pic and the specs of the wheels:
  • Color: Machined Face
  • Bolt Pattern: 5 on 5"
  • Size: 17x9
  • Backspacing: 5
  • Backspacing Range: 5.00" - 5.24"
  • Offset: 0
  • Wheel Diameter: 17
  • Wheel Width: 9.0
I'm thinking about the Cooper SST Pro but I'm open to suggestions. I have the Duratracs on it now and would like something different. I do want to stay stock but would consider a puck lift (2" max) if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.....

Mike

Sorry about the size of the image. Not sure why it uploaded so big.

They are probably telling you that won't work because they think you have the factory wheels. Did you tell them you have new 5" BS wheels? Probably would have been better to get something with 4.5" BS just in case you get the itch to move to a 35 at some point.

**it's hard to rely on a tire shop give you correct advice once mods start. It's best to just know what will or will not work for you. In your case, 5" BS is fine to run a 33". I've never had 33s much less on a stock height, but any time you change suspension or tires, you really need to think about your bump stop situation, or lack there of.

You can run those wheels with 285/70r17 tires and stock suspension.

The wheels will also work with 315/70r17 or 35x12.5r17, however you will need a lift.

The 4.5" backspace number that is always thrown out does not account for wheel width.
