Max width on stock

Hello Everyone! New member and new to the Wrangler world (Wife had a Liberty). I have a 2016 JKU Oscar Mike with pretty much everything stock. I don’t hate the stock wheels and I haven’t found a set I love yet so I’m looking a taking a small step and just upgrading tires. This is my daily driver and my recreational vehicle so I’d like to get a tire that won’t get me stuck on the beach or in some mud on dirt roads and will be decent on the highway.

I guess I’m just looking for what tire size can my 17x8.5 stock wheels handle with out a lift? And if anyone has recommendations for what I should go for? Pics of your setup are always appreciated.

The stock wheels are 17*7.5" and they can handle whatever you want to put on them. You'll experience better tire life of if ykeep it within manufacturer's recommended widths though. I have a picture somewhere of 37*13.5" tires on stock wheels, I can find it if you'd like.

With no lift I’d stick 285/70-17 if you want wider tires and 255/80-17 if you want taller tires.

I have 12.5 width on stock 2015 hard rock JKUR wheels now for 3+ years and 73k miles without issue. Road driving as well as off road with 15 psi.
