New Tire Suggestions - First time buying Jeep tires
I am really curious how you feel going from 37s to 35s? I have really put some thought into this recently. I've been running Toyo Open Coutry 37x13.5 for some time now (Nitto Trail Grappler 37x12.5 before that). I simply do not use the jeep the same way I used to. I'd love the pavement performance gain I'd get from dropping back down to a 35, but I sure do worry it might look odd to me on a 3.5" lift with flat fenders. It would also mean i have to change tires on my trailer......so 8 tires total going down to 35s
.
The downsides: Tires look a little small, lose an inch of clearance underneath, and I can't laugh at the wife trying to climb into the Jeep as much.
The upsides: Many! The tires are lighter. I get much better engine performance, almost "peppy" from my 3.8L! There is a lot less downshifting on the hills and the transmission is running noticeably cooler. I put in a Teraflex big brake in the front to help stop the 37s. Now, the brakes are very responsive and have noticeably shorter braking distances. Unexpected bonus: I recalculated the rear end "stuff" into the wheel well and realized I could gain over 1.5" of extra up travel without hitting the shock limits. I bought a set of Metalcloak DuraSprings and their bump stop pads. Now there is no harsh bottoming out.
What does the Jeep look like after I downsized? Well, just fine thank you! I'm very happy with going a bit smaller! Size does matter!
