Re-gearing 2007 unlimited x
I have a 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited x with Next Gen. Dana 30 Solid Front Axle Next Gen. Dana 44 HD Rear Axle Conventional Differential Frt Axle. I am wanting to go to a 4.56 I am currently on 35-12.5 17s. Is there anything special I need for the front axle it being a dana 30 front axle?

With an 3.8L, auto, and 35s, I'd think you'd want to go even lower than 4.56. Have you looked at the gear charts (pic in first post of thread below). If you're gonna do it, may as well do it right. You'll need a new carrier for the front, but they're cheap.

**keep in mind those gear charts are using actual tire measurements, not just what is stamped on the sidewall. Your measurement will vary depending on tire, PSI you run, etc. Your 35 is likely 33.5 -34"

So going by chart and you are right tires are 34" the recommended gears are 4.88. So going with that I see reverse and motive as you can tell I am a boot to this stuff. Which one and will only need carrier 4.88 for the front correct ?

I forget that the factory wasn't so stingy with gearing in the early years. Ronjenx highlights good point. If you have 3.73 gearing or lower (higher number), you may not need a new carrier after all.

I'd also gusset the C's at a minimum but be better to go with a full truss also. Just depends on how hard you wheel it. 4.88's will be great with the 35's and will even run 37's if it's a manual. I have 5.13's in my 07' with 37s and sometimes I think they are too low. Work great on the trails though!

Verify what gears you have. As noted, 3.21, 3.73 and 4.10 were available for non-rubicons in 2007. If you have 3.21, you will need a new carrier for the front d30, which should be around $90 or so. (the rear d44 carrier is fine for any ratio)
Verify that you do indeed have a rear D44, as some folks have been surprised to find out their 07 came with a rear D35. For that matter, I believe front d44's were available that year also for non-rubicons.
Auto or Manual trans? Be sure to check the correct version of the chart. Auto's generally want one ratio higher (numerically) than sticks. For 3.8 auto's with 35's, 5.13's are popular. Manuals, 4.56 and 4.88 are more popular.
If you are considering adding traction, while it is being regeared is the time to do it. From the way you wrote the initial post, it sounds like you may have a rear limited slip now? If so, verify that it is still working, as the clutches can wear out and be no better than an open diff.

'IF' you need the d30 carrier, this is what you'll look for.

And if you choose to add a full case traction device, it will take the place of the carriers. (detroit TrueTrac, Detroit Locker, ARB, E-Locker, etc do not need the open carrier)
For the gears, look at the description. JK's use different size gears than 'non'-JK D30's and D44's, so the ones you want will specifically indicate that they are for a Jeep JK. (in this link, you can find 'JK' in both the model number and mfg's partt number)

Note the type of install kit you buy. For 11 year old axles, new bearings/races/etc are probably a good call. Look for words like 'major install' or 'master install' kit.

The one thing I'd add......since you have 4.10s, general rule is you need to move at least 2 gear sets to make the expenditure worthwhile. You're not going to notice much difference between 4.10s and 4.56. You really need to go 4.88 or 5.13.
Here is some food for thought......it would require more work, and wouldn't be the most convenient thing, but since you have 4.10's in there, those axles would be an upgrade for someone that has 3.21s. One thought could be to do an axle swap with someone, given them your axles with 4.10s, and you taking their higher geared axles + some cash.....which you could then put towards regearing, saving you a bit. Something like that is probably easier in a big metropolitan area, but throwing it out there.
