Default $6.00 Hi-Lift mount.

So rear bumpers are a little out of my price range. So I need a good place to mount my Hi-Lift with out drill any hole in my JK. Heres what I came up with.
Supplies needed:
12" of 2"x 1/4" flat steel stock
12" of 1/2" all thread.
3 1/2" nuts
1 1/2 wingnut
Sawzall
Drill with 1/2" bit
Vice

First I started out by removing my spare tire and poping the center cap out of the wheel. Then I cut the flat steel down to 2 pieces 5 1/2" each. Drill a 1/2" hole dead center of both pieces.

Place a 1/2" nut on the end of the all thread, followed by 1 of flat steel plates. You can sandwich the two plates on hole in the factory spare tire carrier. Tighten down the second nut to secure the two plates.

Remount the spare tire and tighten it to the carrier. Add the third 1/2" nut to support the back of the High lift and secure with the wing nut.

Took me a total of about a 1/2 hour. Jack it solid and swings with rear door nice and smooth.

Heres a few quick pics of the finished product

Looks good. Does it extend above the roof line?

It sticks about 1/2" above my roof. You could adjust up or down as needed, But i needed to clear my pintle hitch for my M100 that I tow.

That is a great solution. Will probably be my first mod.

So far it has worked great. I have had it on for about 1500 miles now and love it. Just make sure the tire is properly tightened or it will rattle. If its done right no rattle at all.

Do you think it'll still work if i put the mount stud through a tire cover? I like the spare to be covered, but think this is a great mod...

FYI, tire covers cause premature rot of spare tires by trapping moisture........

I dont see why not , All you would have to do is simply poke a hole for the rod in the tire cover.

I am really impressed with the enginuity of the mount. As soon as I am able to get a new High Lift I am going to try it.
