15 mins $5.00 Hard top heat shield
Summer heat is coming, and i am not willing to deal with the scorching hardtop with all the heat radiation above my head. it Was Ok in spring, but temps reach 120F here in Summer
So a quick visit to the hardware store comes up
this is what you want
Strongest velcro ever. (it's plastic on both sides, with no fibers)
Result.
i did only the front panels on my 2DR, to compare between the front and rear in heat difference . And WOW. Will do the rear as soon as i take the top off.
Cooler interior and it maintains the stock look in and out Can be easily removed also. all that for $5.00

they had different thicknesses at the store, i went with that for cleaner looks and easy operation of the latches as anything thicker will get in the way.
it has been 2 weeks since i did it and the velcro is holding up real good.
And the heat difference is easily noticeable, i use the AC on lower fan settings now, and the top is cool to touch from inside.
After parking under the sun for 2-3 hours in 110F days, the cabin is still nearly as hot as before, but it will get to comfortable levels much faster than before, and the radiating heat above my head is gone.

Thickness of the foam has nothing to do with it. The foil is a radiant barrier that prevents and reflects radiant (Infra Red) heat, the stuff you feel. It's the same concept as the radiant roof sheeting. I think they even make a spray or paint on coating now with the same properties for houses that would probably work too.
If the Velcro sticking becomes a problem, go to your local West Marine store and get some Marine grade velcro. The adhesive is much better. I've used it to hold a windwhield sun screen up in my truck for 10 years now, and it has not let go. It get's plenty hot in S Texas too.
