Default 4 Wheel drive question

I put my new 2013 in 4 wheel drive high and turn wheel all the way to the left. It feels like the jeep wheels are fighting each other. Does anyone know why or is my jeep defective?

Usually more so at low speeds, what you're describing is normal.

Ya and it'll be hard to make complete turns. 4wd for you at low speeds that is! Like said above

Were you trying it out on a solid surface ? Like a parking lot or driveway ?

You should only have your vehicle in 4WD if you are on a slick surface.

Yes this was on hard surface and I also did it on hard surface but very wet. Still had that issue. Just seems like front and back tires were fighting each other. Just glad it sounds like its a normal experience. Thank you all for the knowledge.

What you are doing is binding up the drivetrain, especially the front end. The Jeep shouldn't be driven in 4 wheel on dry pavement, and even pavement with a little snow or light rain. When you are in the dirt, your drivetrain can bind when you turn the wheels either full left or right. If you start to experience the binding, turn the wheels back toward center and make your turn a little wider. If you bind it up too much, or too many times, you'll damage the front end in several places, and you could damage the transfer case.

Thank you for all your info. I feel much better now. It's been a while since I've owned a 4WD. Any other cool tips or things for sale. Please let me know.

Check this video out, it's a great explanation of how the 4 wheel drive system works.
