Did you have to add a relay when you hardwired? I know the px24 bulbs are 24 watts. Just looking around for a few ideas.

Thanks,

Kevin

done with the small talk.

I was eating a delcious pile of popeyes chicken after me and my buddy finished taping and wetsanding his ws6 trans am...

so after popeyes we went next door to the New auto zone.. and i was looking at retrofitting a new bulb in to the psx24w housing
but.. NO LUCK

I stumbled apon a set of fog lights..

Pilot driving lights. 4inch housings with h3 bulbs. i was hesitant on getting them thinking they were a pile of shit..

so i paid under debit so if they blew ass i would return them.

got home installed them and holy balls they are 2x as bright as my IPF headlights.

heres some shots.

i took the old fog light mount and it fit perfectly and screwed right on it..

the blue looks great in person and grew on me instantly and it provides white light.. NO BLUE

IPF920H4'S ONLY

PILOT FOGS ONLY

BOTH.

Another shot of playhouse

just ipfs.... see you cant see trees in background
here is both ipf and pilots

photos dont do them justice they were takin with my verizon droid..

what you will need to do.

first buy the PILOT PL203W from auto zone 39.00 EXCELLENT QUALITY with glass lense
throw pos stockers away

1.Take the Grill off the jeep.. Six clips

2.Take the center peice in between the bumper and grill... 2 clips in order to remove bumper and have room

3. take off bumper.. 8x 18mm bolts

than install old fogs outer ring and hard wire the new fogs in with disconnects and install everything back to normal.

thanks guys hope some follow my footsteps in this... they are EXTREMLY bright!!!

Cody

Wow!! Those look really bright, and I think the blue will look great on my deep water blue JK. So I am a total newb to electrical stuff and I was wondering if this is an easy mod for me. Could someone tell me what this means: "than install old fogs outer ring and hard wire the new fogs in with disconnects and install everything back to normal." How do I hardwire them? What are disconnects? etc
Thanks everyone

in order to yank your stock fogs, you will unscrew it from the inside bumper (4 screws). now the stock fogs are attached to that hardware ring(you need that). unscrew that long screw, and pry the side of the hardware ring over the nipples. now your stock fogs are free! (not really) you will be forced to cut the two wires in order to free up your stock fogs and install the new ones.
you will have 2 wires- one black and one white/stripe(color?the light colored one. doesnt matter. just be sure to keep black with black!).
you have to somehow, connect the black wire(from vehicle) to black wire(from new fogs). the other wire(from vehicle) connect that to the white wire(from new fogs).
you have many ways to wire it. you can "hardwire" those wires by either getting cheapo wire connectors or soldering them together and protecting them with heatshrink.
I decided to make it "disconnectable" and soldered wires to female/male clip connector from radio shack. (just ask rep. to get you a 2 wire connector clip)

hope this helps...sounds harder than it seems..just trying to be descriptive..

haha...
...the hardware ring.
slide the new fog lights in the hardware ring you just removed from the old stock fogs(you will need a little muscle). line up the screw holes on the sides and use the provided screw and washer from the new fog light kit...tighten nice and snug.

Thank you sooooo much I really appreciate the detailed description because that's what I needed to understand how to do it. Would a dealer care if I hardwired the new lights? Also, if I did it the way you did and soldered the wires to a female/male clip connector from radio shack and ever needed to return my JK to stock, I could just repeat the process and re-cut the wires to re-solder them to a female/male clip connector again, correct?

No prob!em!
This fourm has been very helpful to me, so I try to give back whenever possible

As for the dealer, they should have nothing to say about wiring in the new fog lights, or at least I would hope not
I just try to keep any and all mods I do myself on the Jeep nice and clean!
No duct tape, Mcgyver fixes please
As for wanting to go back to stock? Yes, just be sure to leave some extra wire on the stock connector before cutting it off and you can reverse and re-solder anytime...

Also...
If you read the entire thread..folks have done this WITHOUT removing the front bumper, and so did I...
ultimately its your choice, I saw no need to. less work for me
