H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) is a weak acid meaning it has a pH below 7 when dissolved in water. The problem with putting it on your car is not really the acidic factor, but its oxidation properties. Rust is Iron Oxide, and putting iron (or other metals) in contact with an oxidizer speeds up the process. It's oxidizing properties are what give it the bleaching capabilities also for hair (or paint?). I know it will oxidize the black plastic parts of your Jeeps and cause them to crack and become brittle over time. I am used to working with this compound in 30% solutions, but the common houshold concentration is 3%. "3% H2O2 is used medically for cleaning wounds, removing dead tissue, or as an oral debriding agent. Most over-the-counter peroxide solutions are not, however, suitable for ingestion." (Don't want anyone going home and injesting it based on the previous post about it being o.k. to drink.)
All that being said, I agree that a one time use or the occational use on your GLASS is not a big problem, just use plenty of water after to rinse it off. And like it was said alwready, don't use it in your washer resivoir please.

Thank you I never thought about the oxidation aspect of it on the metal. By no means do I recomend drinking hydrogen peroxide either. I did not think anyone here would i was just using it as an example of how safe it is. I would worry about it a lot if it was 15% or 30% but the over the counter 3% used in a pinch works. I think a lot of folks took this as a cleaning method for daily or weekly use. I used it and was recomending it as a solution to a problem I seem to have more often than not. Noting beats using a scrubber to take off bug guts but if you don't have one or can't get to one and have this problem some hydrogen peroxide (which I usually have in my medical kit on trips) will work to help clear the windshield. Those of us in the south will wash our vehicles drive 1 mile and collect a lot of bugs my jeep seems to collect more. I am usually scrubbing the windshield about every couple of days sometimes more sometimes less and sometimes after driving somewhere I don't have access to a scrubber and am having trouble seeing out the windshield. It works till I can get to the proper equipment and get them all off. Guarenteed we will stop at least 1 time if not more on our trip to Florida down 95 to clean bugs off before we get where we are going because we are leaving this afternoon. Heck we will most likely stop right before we get on 95 and do it as we head through some low swampy areas to get to 95. I am not talking a spotless clean here just spot cleaning for better visibility.

What happens is it somehow has more oxygen atoms bonded to the hydrogen and when applied to a surface containing organic components it releases the two extra oxygen and transforms into water. As it does the oxygen lifts stuff up with it while the water rinses it out. At 3% the standard for wound cleansing it is so diluted you can put it on an open cut w/o damage. At 15% it will bleach the pigment out of your fingers or hair (It's used in lightening hair) because it lifts away the color. They even inject low percentages in some outlandish forms of cosmetic surgery saying it oxygenates the blood and thus the cells reducing the signs of aging. I would worry if we were talking high percentages here but at 3% you could pratically drink it. Take it for what you will and if you worry about it don't use it. Me I am going to have a spray bottle with me for long trips especially spring through fall so I don't have to stop and look for stuff to wash the bugs off the windshield when I am on the road. Notice my reasoning and why I suggested it. I do not say clean it all the time with this stuff or use an abrasive (steel wool or magic eraser) but for ocasional use it works.
H2O2
this is true its no diferant than using oxiclean
