Thought I'd show some progress on this Mod I've started.
I want to keep the pup behind the second row of seats when traveling, I looked for nets like this but they are beyond my budget.
I have about $20.00 in to this so far.
It's held together with duct tape at this point. I used Excel to lay it out in a grid.
I'm using the floor in the living room the long lines of the wood help A LOT.

This one is in the jeep.

IMHO the dog will climb through the sides. I have made 2 so far because this was the case on the 1st one. My second one is better, but I still do not think it's possible to completely close the space unless you continue the netting all round the roll cage (I have seen this and it looks bad*ss). I have a pretty obedient dog, so I have achieved success. If yours is persistent, he will get through. Also, you should not attach the bottoms to the existing metal loops, because when you flip the seats down, something will have to give. The webbing is very tough, so it will probably bend the metal loops.
I ended up adding 2 D rings to the bolts that secure the back seats. Now I can fold my seats flat, and the net stays in place. My 1st net I made with completely with webbing, but the 2nd one I made using a webbing frame and a nylon mesh as the body.
I will try to post some pics soon.
After I made the 2nd one, I thought about it more, and actually the simplest solution is to secure a ring to the sound bar, and just clip the dog back there using a short leash.

I thought about both items you talk about and have not gotten to doing that much of the fab. I didn't think about D-rings... I was thinking gromets but a Couple D-rings make more sense and will be more useful.
My golden would go throught just about anything, I even sized the 4 inch grid spaces with him in mind. He can't get his head through a 4 inch space. Anthing larger would be dangerous for him if his head was through and something happened, a fast stop etc... I don't even want to think about it.
Thanks for the D-ring idea, I'll incorporate it. I have a 4 door so the sound bar isn't an option.
