Has anyone added a power lock / unlock to the tailgate? it looks from the outside like the same setup as the doors, so since we are jeep guy, someone making a power one can't be too far off...

Unlocking from the inside should be a safety issue, its law on cars isn't it?

at the 08 auto show I was at in Jan, a ton of cars had them, actually glow in the dark pull tabs with graphincs 'pull' and 'escape' on them..
Power locks unlock and lock ALL doors, including the tailgate.

Yeah, I actually forget that sometimes. I have that stereotype in my mind of meatheads walking around with crowbars, breaking windows. Not thinking of the folks that would take the time to attack a break-in analytically.

I'm going to re-visit the issue of visibility this weekend. I'd like to make it easy to do for those that know it's there, but not as easy to spot.

I think one of the reasons that I like Jeeps is because I don't feel trapped in them. I've dealt with claustrophobia issues since I was a kid. Since the roof is so easy to take off, even when they are closed up, they still feel open to me. Knowing that I can open the tailgate from the inside just helps make it feel more open to me.

With the battery powered drills you can get in to any thing in no time at all.

I can't see the pics (I'm at work) I'm gona look at doin this mod, I crawled in under the window and had the gate close. Thats when I noticed there was no way to get out.

I'm not too impressed with that "secure compartment" anyway. I think if you grab the edge and pull up you'll bend the cover enough to come open. Isn't it cardboard or plastic?

Although this is an old thread.....

I wouldn't be too worried about how "insecure" the back is if you knew how easy it is to pop the doors and even worse how the vehicle can be stolen with either a quarter or a spark plug. Yeah days of screw drivers are old school.
