OR-Fab sliders and side armor write up
First of all, HUGE thanks to Yates, Kevin and the guys at OR-Fab for hooking me up with these awesome rails and armor. The quality is simply amazing, welds are beautiful, powdercoating is perfect, and the customer service cannot be beat.
Also big thanks to Racer83l and Rubiconvict and ChevyM14 for helping out with the install
Total install time is about 2 and 1/2 hours per side
Take off your doors
First make sure you have all the parts and hardware and tools listed in the instructions.
You need at least one other person to help hold the armor/rails. We had 3 people total helping out and once we knew what we were doing it went smoothly.
If you have factory steps or rails, remove them. Also remove the wrangler sticker and unlimited sticker from the side of the jeep (factory steps do not make good rock rails
)
Have one or two people hold up the armor to the side of the jeep.
-Make sure you have the armor lined up exactly where you want it, once you drill the first hole there is no going back!
Using the armor as a guide, drill all the holes with the 5/16th bit....
Remove the armor and using a 3/8ths bit, enlarge the rear 7 holes
The rear 7 holes need to be enlarged to fit the rivet nut sleeve.
Take the rivet nut and push it into the drilled hole, you might need to use a hammer to help it in
Put the rivet nuts into all 7 holes that were enlarged
Using the supplied rivet nut tool, insert the black nut from the tool into the rivet nut sleeve and start screwing in the nut on top of the tool that will pull the sleeve and crush it against the body, holding it in place so it does not slide out of the body. ( instructions on how to use the rivet nut tool are in the instructions)
Use the rivet nut tool on all 7 of the rivet nuts that were earlier inserted into the rear 7 drilled holes
Have someone hold the armor up to the jeep and begin threading the 7 LARGER bolts into the 7 rivet nut sleeves
Loosen the front quarter panel by removing the front 2 bolts on the pinch seam, 1 bolt in between the hinges, and 1 bolt - you need to loosen it to get behind there to get nuts on the front bolts
Using someone with skinny hands or taping the nut to the wrench pull the pinch seam back and thread the bolts in the front
-the most difficult one is the top one all the way in the front. The best way to get in is to have someone pull back the pinch seam and go thought the fender liner and thread the bolt.
Go back and tighten all the bolts in the side armor....
Congratulations the side armor is now installed
Installing the rails is easier...
The 2 bolts from the pinch seam that were removed earlier have nuts welded onto the back of the pinch seam...
These two nuts need to be grinded off, using a dremel or similar tool
Next, get the long bolts to drop down through the body, by sticking them in the square holes and maneuvering them so that the bolt falls throught the circular hole
The six holes already in the pinch seam need to be drilled out to 3/8ths.
Then add the clips that act as nuts
Line the rails up to make the final 7th hole in the pinch seam with the 3/8ths bit, and then add the clip for that hole also
Have someone else hold the rails up while you line up the holes and first bolt on the 2 bolts in the bottom of the body
Once those bolts are tight, you need someone to pull up on the rails so that you can line up the 7 holes on the pinch seam.
Thread all the bolts loosely then tighten them all up.
Repeat for the other side....
Your OR-Fab sliders and side armor are now installed

MAn I am DIGGIN those!!!! LOve my ORF bumpers. Thes Looks AWESOME! question, do the sliders just mount to the pinch seam and no where else? How sturdy do they feel and can they be used as a HI-lift point? oh and NIce write up

These things are extremely sturdy, and im sure they could support the weight of the whole jeep

we jacked up his JK from the sliders, the sliders did not budge. they are SOLID. they are bolted to the jeep using a lot more hardware than the stock Rubi rails (Which are adequate for wheeling, I run the enhanced versions). These rails and armor feel like they make the JK indestructible. Im debating the Armor for my 4dr.
