Foot Well Lighting
So I need to say that this was my first real task i had done to my Jeep. It was cheap and for the most part, easy.
I had first decided to do this when my girlfriend kept on complaining about dropping stuff on the floor and not being able to find it because it was too dark and she never liked my smart ass answer of "Don't drop it then!" So this it how it went:
I wanted to be able to turn them on and off independently of the dome lights and i wasn't really concerned about having them dimmable just because they were in the foot wells. I chose LEDs because.... well i figured that answers itself.
For the wire stages, I found it easy to remove the front seats. I know the bolts are hard to remove but trust me, totally worth the hassle.

Next, I decided instead of running a whole new circuit from the battery, i would simply tap into the existing 12V line behind the center console. First step, remove the center console panels. Pretty simple to remove the top panel and the lower panel under the 12V outlets. Next unscrew the four screws to release the main console.

To make it easier to grab the center panel, I removed the vents. Once i pulled the panel forward, i unclipped the window controls, 12V outlets, lower control panel and unscrewed the HVAC system from the console panel.

following that, I tested for the 12V circuit. It was the blue wire with the purple line as you can see in the above picture. I decided to put the switches on the left side of the steering wheel above the speaker.

I simply ran all the cable through behind the paneling and like i said earlier, its the blue with purple stripe wire that i used.
I found these lights on ebay for a dollar plus $2.50 for shipping. They are very bright and work great. I mounted them on a metal strip and mounted them just under the panels where your knees are at.

Nice writeup, but....
Why not just tap into the door ajar connector wires? This way, it'll come on whenever you open the door and I'm pretty sure you can still light em with the dome light switch.

here is what it turned out like. The lights arent actually as bright as they appear in the picture but when they are on, you can see clear as day down there.
Oh and FYI, the two strips arent both white lights, i did blue as well but they are too purplish and i ordered green ones from the same ebay guy i dealt with earlier.
Hope this helped someone.

point of project:
1. lights with switch
2. able to turn on while driving or not driving.
3. have them off when the ignition is off to save battery
4. they just look cool.
