Full Size Flag Mount Write-Up
Initially was going to weld the mount to the adapter directly but the welds burned right through it. So I cut a piece of steel out the exact size of the mount and used a drill press to make the 4 holes. Pretty simple
Been a while since this thread has seen life... But i had my hitch mounted flag on the other day with the top on and it does not fly. I know there is a reason with aerodynamics as to why this doesn't work. But I haven't tried with the top off, I assume it would work but I'm not sure
Lets put this to rest, this is the best thing Ive seen come on the market for us flag flying Jeepers. This thing is a sick idea. It mounts to the back tailgate hinges and I can STILL USE MY TAILGATE with it installed!! Oh, also - you can put whatever you want in it. I put my surf rods in it for on-shore fishing. And beach umbrellas

OK, so I got this wild hair up my a$$ and decided it would be much cooler to wave my pirate flag or American flag on my jeep while off roading or crusin the beaches in the Outer Banks.
First off, I can't stress enough how bad of an idea it would be to drive down the highway with this. I’ve done a 10 minute trip at 70mph and it alone tore the ends of my flag. So this is for slow driving only!!!!
Alrighty, so with the stock bumper, there isn’t much room for this and still have tailgate unreality along with sturdiness of the mount. Most after market bumpers would be perfect since they are steel and have plenty of flat spots.
With that being said, I used the 3rd brake light pillar as the mount. Its metal, strong, and works.
So, from Home Depot, I got this flag mount:

And some screws to fit it which I cut down in length so that they'd fit with out having to drill all the way through the light mount:

Now, I mounted it rather high so that the tail gate can close without pushing this thing against the rear soft top window, incase its ever closed while I’m using this.

Once you drill your holes based off the mounting plate, tap them or you can come in from the other side as well and use bolts and nuts. If you do decide to tap them like I did, make sure you tap them parallel to the plate and not the light mount. The light mount has a slight curve to it so your screws will be crocked when going in.
Once its on, mount your flag and you're ready to show off.
