Homemade Tiedown Rails
Developed these "tiedown rails" for the storage area of my 2008 X Unlimited - took about 30 minutes do make the rails, plus the time for the paint to dry
Attachment 118278 Picked up a couple of 36" long 1-1/2" slotted angle pieces from Home Depot trimmed them to 33-1/4" in length, then did some light grinding to smooth the edges and corners Attachment 118277 Grabbed my T40 torx and removed the roof bolts from one side of the rear cargo area... Attachment 118275 ... and centered the rails holes on the middle roof bolt hole Attachment 118276 Marked where the outer roof bolts need to go and and removed the materials as needed to let the outer roof bolts pass through the rails. My cut was kinda rough (the second one was better) but it's hidden under the bolt anyway. Attachment 118280 More to follow... |
The rail should line up nicely between the pin just behind the back door and the rear of the JK
Attachment 118286 Double check fit by installing the roof bolts and making sure nothing is out of place Attachment 118287 Paint to your preference and install - i used Rustoleum "truck bed liner" the textured black looks good in my Black X Unlimted Attachment 118288 COST - about $25 including the paint CAUTIONARY NOTE - the slotting is different on each face of the angle so, if your as anal as I am double check your setup. I'm going to have to redo one side. Not sure which yet. |
Very nice. It's simple, and functional.
