Is there enough room behind the stock trim to possibly set this back in a little farther? i know theres a fair amount of room behind the pillar trim but I've never taken off the windshield trim.

Well as you can see in the pictures on the first page, there is only about 1/2 to 3/4 of inch between that panel and the metal frame of the windshield. This is designed and build this way to allow room for wiring these particular type of switches. If you used a small toggle simple on/off type switch you could make buildout thinner and tighter to the roof.
