I haven't updated my Hypertech in a year. Does anyone know if I have to program the Jeep to stock, then update the programmer, then re-program the Jeep?

OR

Just update the programmer, and program the Jeep over the one in it now?

You have to return to stock setting first

Default 09 JK benefits?

What parameters are adjustable with the Max Energy on the 09? I know about tire size and the 92 octane vs. 89 octane programs. Are automatic shift points and firmness adjustable or not?

What mpg improvements am I likely to see? My JK is bone stock with only 3600 miles. It gets about 19.6 mpg on the highway. By the way it is 2wd.

Bottom line, is the Max Energy worth it for mpg improvements?

MPG improvements are small, I got mine for tire size/ spedo correction, and it gets rid of that slight hesitation when you punch the gas. No lag, just goes. Mine is an 07 so not sure if there is any benifits with it when using it on an 09. I know I can not change my shift points, and stuff. Just thermostat, fan cooling thing, tire size, and regular or premium. Unless more is in the update that I'm going to do tonight.

My '07 was up to 20.4 mpg with 87 octane and no reprogramming before I got rid of it. It was using a quart of oil every 1500 miles and no reason/evidence why. The '09 definitely has a better factory program as far as throttle response is concerned. My only mods to the '07 were a K&N dropin air filter and a set of E3 sparkplugs. No mods to the '09.....yet.

I may be wishing in one hand and pissing in the other but I think the JK with auto and 2wd should be able to get close to 25 mpg on the hwy and close to 18-19 in town. Yes I know it is a brick in the wind, but programming is the key. I don't really feel like taking the computer out and sending it to BG Chrysler even though I hear/read good things about their programming. A handheld programmer is the next choice, but.......is it worth it?

no you dont but you are supposed to return the programming to stock before you bring the Jeep to the dealer, because if they need to do anything to the computer they'll see it doesnt have Chrysler programming in it. It says it right in the directions for the Hypertech.

i recently put in the hypertech and saw a 4mpg increase in mixed driving. Before the program i had put a AFE drop in filter and a throttle body spacer. With those two mods i was getting 16-17 mpg and now i am getting 20-21 mpg rarely drops below 19.5 mpg
