Default Interior lighting

As most of you JK owners know at night the dash the console shifter area it pitch black i solved the problem for about 10 bucks @ the local radio shack. drilled 3 holes in the dash under the knobs for the heat and stuff and wired them to a switch that was on the blank port on the hazard panel and the stability control. i tapped the power off the ignition controlled power outlet in case i forget to turn the switch off and kill my battery

took about an hour.

Did you take out the factory switch strip assembly to install your switch in the blank spot? I am thinking about doing a mod to put a 110 AC house plug in one of the blank spots that would be run remotely from a power inverter but not sure if there is enough room there. Might have to go with the lower switch panel route. I know its not hard to just plug it into the power port but I would like to have the clean look of it installed in the dash without cords everywhere. BTW the lights look good!

I will take a pic at night when is lit up........

....... there is not a lot of room at all behind that panel. i had to dis assemble the panel itself remove the circuit board and drill the hole very carefully. there is no room for a plug in there. i even had a sweet switch i was going to use but it would not fit because there is a circuit board behind that blank panel. I will take pics next time i take it apart

Somebody did this last year but the thread is gone, the only link I found for it takes you nowhere. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-write-ups-39/where-did-post-go-21291/
He put some LEDs inside the door handles too.
Anyways, good job.

Great Mod!

Question,
Are those LED's that bright that they need a switch?
I'm gonna do something similar but I'd rather they just come on with the headlights, so that the console are has a nice glow....
The wife's Honda CRV has one mounted up high, and keeps the area between the seats from becoming a black hole.....any thoughts?

no you don't need a switch im just a switch happy freak and i figured i could use one of those blank spots since i don't have the electronic disconnects. but you could wire them to the lights no problem.
