Mopar Door Entry Guards (Sill Protectors)
One of the first quirks, if you will, with my new 07 Wrangler was the fact that there was no included protection for the sills of the doors. While I feel this was a little cheap on DiamlerChrysler's part not to include some cheap plastic protection for these area of the doors that were sure to get scratched up in short order; Mopar was quick to release the OEM door sill protectors at an extra cost of course. There are 2 models available, for 2 door and 4 door models, and come in any color you want so long as its black.
Within 2 weeks of taking delivery of my Wrangler, I knew that a trip to the local dealer was in short order. When I told the 2 middle aged gentlemen behind the counter exactly what I was looking for they looked at each other with marked ignorance then proceeded to tell me that no accessories were available for the new 07 models yet, and try back after the first of the year. Instead of coming across as a young punk, I kindly asked for 2 oil filters and proceeded to the cashier without haste. Upon my return home I quickly retreated to ebay and ordered the 4 door model sill protectors from a Jeep dealer smart enough to take profit on already released accessories.
The sill protectors are also available at the www.mopar.com/jeep/ website, and can be found under the Interior Accessories menu, then under Door Entry Guards. The 2 door version retails for $23.00 for the pair, with the 4 door set coming in at $35. Upon completion of my order I received the package in the mail within 3 days. The protectors are an attractive black textured plastic with a cross-hatched type pattern molded in, along with the Jeep logo for authenticity!
Installation is straight forward. The surface should be cleaned with a lint-free rag, then again with the included alcohol wipes to ensure a good contact with the metal. From there simply remove the covering over the double-sided tape that secures the protector and roughly position the protector to the door, making sure to fit the guards snugly against the lip of the body then press down hard over the surface area that includes the adhesive to affix it to the body. Installation time for me was less than 10 minutes. I feel these could have been made a little better if they wrapped over the lip of the body, but I feel they will be sturdy enough to stay put for a long time.
It is my belief that these protectors are a necessity to ensure the longevity of the paint in the doorframe area, and consider it greedy on DiamlerChryler's part not to include them in the purchase of your new Wranglers. Luckily for us that are relatively low cost. Consider this at the top of your must-have accessories for your new Jeep Wranglers.

Those look pretty nice. I thought i saw some Stainless Steel ones in the mopar catalogue for the jk too...?? I dunno maybe not. Im kinda upset about my door sills. I paid an extra 1200 on the price of my jk for "total body and under body rust protection" by a company called ziebart. Mostly cause I live on the beach. They drilled some crude holes around the sills and in the rear of my 2dr around where the soft top clips in. These holes have no paint protecting the bare drilled metal and have already begun to rust! What the hell? Boy I really got my $1200 worth...
If my girlfriends cat didnt take my camera for a swim in its waterbowl, id take some pics. Just to make sure it was this company that drilled the holes does anybody else have holes drilled in their door sills? or on the lip of the area the soft top would snap into?? Im thinking about just getting some touch-up paint and putting it on that bare metal. just dont want the rust to spread. Also should i remove the carpet and inspect for more "rust proofing holes"??
Ziebart ripped me off on my TJ. They didn't have a service center within 300 miles from me. If you don't get the annual check they don't honor the warranty. The place sprayed my wheels and didn't do a thing about it
Is there some sort of plastic film we can buy for the edges. On my TJ I just noticed I've worn off the paint from stepping on the edge before I hop out. Might not have a problem with the JK, isn't the side a little lower than the TJ. I'm still waiting for mine, so I'm not sure.
You could go to your local sign shop and buy some clear vinyl (the self adhesive stuff they make decals from). Then make a template from paper and cut out the vinyl and apply. It should last for awhile.
