Default Need advice about soft top

I got a 2007 used Jeep Wrangler X 2-door with a soft top. The back windshield has a kink in the zipper. So I can unzip the thing but I have to leave a portion of it zipped because I am too afraid that if I unzip it all, it won't all zip back on again. And then I just take out the side windows and pull down the soft top and mash it all into the tailgate area. Is this just wrong? Also, above the driver and passenger doors, the soft top is almost impossible to get off and on (those sections only). Any advice, jeepers?

Just a tip, remove the sides, sit the jeep in the sun so the fabric gets nice and floppy.

Which side of the zipper is not working? The zipper on the rear window, or the track on the sail panels and opening for the rear window?

I have had my top over four years now, even though it could be replaced or upgraded it works perfectly.

The zippers can be sticky sometimes too, i use bike chain cleaner and sealer on mine. Not sure why but it works great. Its like a silicone wax and repels dirt and moisture.

If the tracks are actually busted it could be really tough to remove and replace. Good call there, these tops are funky sometimes. Welcome to the forum! First post, that's great

Default Thanks, sa29560!

What a warm welcome! I enjoy the posts on this forum. Bike chain cleaner and sealer, huh? Must try. Jeep dealerships have been difficult to deal with. Believe this?- 3 dealerships and 5 months later, I finally have roll bar padding and covers. Yes, it took that long. I can see that the forum is the solution. Thanks again.

Yeah, i get a toothbrush and the white lightning cleaner from wally world to prep the surface of the zipper and get it all cleaned up. Then they sell the sealer in the same section. Be real careful not to get it all over the place. I just put down some newspaper in the back so it doesn't get all over the carpet. The sealer comes in a tiny little clumsy bottle. And it loves to run out too fast while applying. I just hold a paper towel right under the zipper to catch any excess it works great, i do this twice a year.

Default cool

so I got a bottle of "White Lightning Easy Clean Bicycle Chain & Gear cleaner" at WallyWorld and also a bottle of "Wax-Film Dry Self-Cleaning Bike Lube" that "lubricates with a dry wax film"- is this the right stuff? It's going to rain tonight so I will probably prep the zipper tomorrow. If I have the wrong stuff, then, I have time to go back and get the right goods. The toothbrush idea is superb, by the way.
