So after reading it here a few times, and finally having my entire hardtop and doors off this weekend i too have decided there must be some way to keep the rear mats from flying out of my jeep... The only thing that kept them in this weekend was my rear passengers. So a quick trip to Lowes, and about six dollars later, the problem is solved and so far seems to be working great. heres the write up.

Supplies:

2 ten inch mini bungee cords.
6 Black plastic/nylon zip ties or cable ties.
1 3/8 inch plastic lavatory supply line from the plumbing aisle. should be at least 4 inches long... i baught the 30" one cuz thats all they had and it was only $1.41

Step 1: Cut the plastic supply line into two peices each 1 7/8 inches long.

Step 2: Line up the newly cut plastic tube with the tab that rests on the front seat bracket but do so on the BOTTOM side of the mat. Then cut six tiny slits in the mat just wide enough to fit a zip tie through, three across the top of the tube, three across the bottom of the tube. Then feed three zip ties through the mat and zip tie the tube in place. See below picture.

Heres what the top side will look like after zip tieing the tube in place.

Step 3: Cut one end off of one of the mini bungee ties, pull the hook off the end, and feed the bungee cord through the tube. Then re-install the hook on the end of the bungee cord, tie a knot so the hook wont fall off the end. see picture below.

Step 4: Put the mat back in place.

Step 5: Hook the bungee cords together beneath the seat bracket. the picture below shows this. It was taken from the front door, below the front seat.

Step 6: Repeat entire process on the other side.

Ok, so one more thing. The only other thing i have since added, is that the hooks on the bungee cords, on each side of the vehicle i pinched one of them entirely closed, and the other almost entirely closed. This is so i can still remove the mats if i need to without much difficulty but there is less chance of them coming un-hooked on their own.

They like to levitate if you ride with the doors off over 45 or so.

Yeah, sorry about the huge pictures guys. I'm not to computer savvy, and forgot to set the
Megapixels down to 1 or less on my camera before i took the shots. The original post i made
with the links kept the pics nice and small, however when USAF_Groundrat was generous
enough to post them click free for me, all 4 megapixels were put to use. I'll try to keep that in
mind for next time. And like i said, i woulda posted them but my usual site for it was down. Sorry
again everyone. Oh well, i guess too big is more helpful than too small at least. Thanks for all the
positive feedback on the write still. It's working out great for me so far. I hope it does the same for all you.
