Default Shovel/Axe Mount

Ok so it's been done here a bunch but I figured I would try it out myself. Some of the beaches in southeastern MA and the islands make you carry a shovel (among other things) to drive on. Figured I'd make it (semi) permanent and who doesn't need an axe? Got them both through amazon on sale, cost me just over $60 when all said and done. Mounted them using the original quick fist with a 1" self taping screw in each. Seems pretty solid. Just have to mount the mag light holder once in comes into Ace (they were out of stock and had to order.) Any suggestions? I think my only option is above the axe.

Damn that looks like it would be a perfect place for my axe and shovel (under the rear seat currently.)

Bond LH015 Mini D Handle Shovel http://amzn.com/B000X47NJY Fiskars 7857 X15 23.5-Inch Chopping Axe http://amzn.com/B000BX4SBI Original Quick Fist® Clamp for mounting tools & equipment 1" - 2-1/4" diameter (Pack of 2) http://amzn.com/B000CQPANY The axe comes in a plastic sheath you can see in the picture with a handle on top that I had to cut off with a hack saw, it's plastic so it's no big deal but it gives you an extra inch or two to work with when space is tight

(That's what she said)

My main idea was for the shovel for the beach and offroad purposes and even to dig out H3s in the snow but I spend a lot of time in the outdoors (camping and stuff) that the axe will come in handy for. And I think I sprouted a couple more chest hairs when I mounted it. The lifetime warranty sealed the deal

Just go to any hardware store and tell them you need a self taping screw for sheet metal, I went with the 1" length and the head size can vary. Use your best judgement as long as the head is big enough it won't sink past the hole in the mount, yes I drilled through the tailgate, I drilled a small pilot hole just to be safe if you get these same tools I can take mine off and measure exactly where I did them if it helps good luck

Thanks, Patjoeday
if you can show me where you drill the holes for the taping screw, that would be very helpful. My car is only 3 months old, don't want to screw up...
