Default Simple Fire extinguisher tailgate mount

I bought (2) 2 lbs. fire extinguishers this weekend to mount inside my Jeep. I was going to fit one under the left side of the bottom of the driver's seat, but it was too big to fit. I'll exchange it for a thinner one to fit there.

The other one was mounted on the tailgate. This is a very simple inexpensive mod to do. First take off the plastic vent on the tailgate. It has 2 metal clips on the left side of it, pop those out and it slides out to the left. I then mounted the fire extinguisher holder, that came with it, to the vent with zip ties. I put one on one way and the other the other way so it would stay centered while mounted.

Then reinstall the vent on the tailgate and lock in the fire extinguisher. There is plenty of clearance on top and bottom so it will not catch on anything. I also slammed the tailgate shut a few times and the fire extinguisher did not budge.

That just means it will come to him when he needs it, instead of having to go grab it himself.....

That's a nice location. West Marine sells a stainless steel mount and strap with a clasp to secure the extinguisher. I currently have my extinguisher attached to the seat rail using bungee straps, but I've used rear door and similar locations in the past where I wanted the anti-missile properties of the stainless steel set-up and it was very reassuring.

I would worry about it hitting things when I carry gear in the cargo area.

just my 2 cents - I like the looks of it sticking it on the rollbar better
ok, so i just picked up a new extinguisher with the roll cage mount. i vae an 08 4 door and roll cage real estate is limited. any pics or suggestions of where people have there? currently it is on a section of the roll cage in the rear drivers side but it cuts head room. i wanted to put it on the vertical bar in the trunk, but the soft top pivot arms are there and the seat belt. like i said, pics or tips?
