Simple Tailgate Bumpstop Fix for Larger Spare Tire
Ok so if you have up-sized your wheels and tires to say a 33" or 35" setup, you may end up with a gap between your rear tailgate bump-stops and spare tire. Depending on what size wheel and tire you've added you'll have to modify or replace the factory bump-stops. You can buy something like the Daystar replacement stops or make your own.
I purchased a piece of rubber tubing with a 1.5" OD and cut it into two pieces and inserted them into the factory bump-stops and that's it!
I ordered from McMaster Carr:
item # 8637K211
Simply remove your existing bump-stops, insert the new pieces and work them in to center them properly (it will be tight!). Reinsert the stops back into the factory mounting holes, twisting back and forth to seat them properly, while aligning the new extension with your tires.
You'll have to estimate the finished length depending on your tire and rim backspacing, so start long and trim as needed.
Regards!

cancel the Daystar's-Looks like 1" rubber hose will do the job inside the factory spacers-Another good cheap upgrade-cudos to who thought this one up. Looks like I can just loosen up the spare to do one side at a time.

Problem Solved
Recently changed wheels/tires on my 15 JK. Added 17" Pintlers w/ 33" Nitto Grapplers. Realized Bumpers weren't making contact with spare tire, which caused some rattling. Came to Forum for solutions. Best advice was to take the 1!/4" washer hose and insert into stock bumper and cut to fit. Used the Discharge Hose, which is stiffer and capped it with a Barstooll Rubber Leg Cap. No rough edge to dig into sidewall. All in, $7.50. Works perfectly and looks good.
Thanks for the help.
