Default Throttle Body Cleaning?

Has anyone seen a write-up on cleaning the throttle body on a JK? I'm sure it is pretty easy, but I want to make sure I don't make a dumb mistake.

Thanks.

I don't know man, other people can chime in here, but i've heard modern throttle bodies have a plastic type coating over the metal, and chemical cleaners will melt this coating and cause more damge than it solves.

I think you might be referring to the mass air flow sensor... on some vehicles even the oils from K&N filters can cover the MAF and cause voltage changes that reduce mileage, etc.

Default Any more thoughts?

I still haven't seen any real write-ups on this. Has anyone cleaned their throttle body and can do a quick write up? Thanks!

I used to own a chevy colorado which required TB cleaning every 30-40K miles.
Usual signs is low idle ,choking when coming to stop, lack of power.
It used to cost $100 at the dealer.
It can be done at home, but couple people have hydrolocked the engines, so i never messed with it.
However, it was the best $100 i spent. Unbelievable difference.
MAF should not be touched. Rather replace then clean. Most likely will be damaged during cleaning, unless a professional is doing it.
Someone said they do this every 6K miles? I would say it's a little too often.
Anyway, if he is working in jeep dealer i am sure he knows better then me.
This is my first jeep and i have made only 1800 miles.
The stuff is called seafoam. And i believe it cost like $25.
Once again, if you are not sure what you are doing....don't do it. Lifetime warranty may not apply when hydrolocked the engine.

I did it once. I used the 3M kit. Everything was fine then I started the Jeep to drive it and the engine would not go over 2K. All lights were on and it was throwing code "mass airflow sensor voltage too high".

I turned the Jeep off waited ten minutes, restarted and it was fine.

Have not done that cleaning since.
