has anyone added an accent color to their wheels to match their jeep? My wife saw a red jeep that had aftermarket wheels, and the wheels were black with red accents, and she really liked it. Well the wheel options like this are limited, and with her jeep being rock lobster makes it more challenging, so we were wondering if we bought a set of fuel wheels that were black/polished, if we could somehow make the polished portions red to match her jeep? We were looking at the Fuel Revolver wheels and were thinking it would be cool to color the polished portion around the circles red. I know it's not much, but I think it would look really good. any thoughts or ideas on how to accomplish this?
You'll have to sand through the finish where it's polished aluminum, paint it, then (hopefully) reapply a clear coat. I'd mask off the whole wheel except where you're sanding and painting.
I'd be half tempted to cheat and just spray a primer over top of the polished sections and then shoot it with paint, followed with a clear.
From my own experience (pic below, little different application)- use Mopar touch up paint. It works, it looks good, but it's expensive. Quadratec will give you a discount over the dealer and such. My other suggestion is to hit it with a clear. I haven't got to clearing all 5 of mine because I was in a rush when I bought everything. Before folks jump in on the mall crawling bandwagon- I wheel it and my shiny rings are getting banged up. They'll need repainting here and there, but I'm willing to accept that. I should have painted over top of the powdercoat and called it good but I blasted them to bare aluminum and then went with my own primer and paint.
I would think that some people might actually paint, but that most are simply using vinyl as the accent. You might search around for "wheel decals" and see where that leads you. Here is one as an example -
I do see those guys have a custom form you can fill out. I have no affiliation or experience with that brand, it was just the first one I pulled up trying ot provide an example of what to search for.
My fear with rattle can paint on wheels is how it stands up, even with a clear over it. Wheels exist in a hard environment of brake dust and pressure washing.
