    Hi Mark -

Thanks for the information. I originally got into HAM radio to supplement COMs for overlanding. However, I am not confident that I can hit a repeater in some locations on 2m, so I want to have a means of communicating on HF bands if needed while in the field. However, like anything else, the more I learn about something, the more interested I get. So I am now considering an all-band or HF mobile radio in my rig. A Buddipole would be a great option for that, as I don't see myself managing QSOs while I am driving. Maybe later, like you've said I can add a mobile HF antenna. I'm planning to try a QRP rig before I get a mobile HF radio. That might be an option in a pinch.

    Happy overlanding!

Hi, Dave! Right now I have the radio only hooked up for 2m and 75cm while rolling. I'm using a dual-band antenna from Laird that was originally mounted above the tailgate, but I have since moved to the top/center of the roof. I have a Buddipole for camp use, though I have yet to actually get on HF (do have a general class license, though, LOL). While I was intensely fascinated by ham radio as a young man (nee WB6MPD), over the years that excitement has waned. I do intend to add some type of mobile HF antenna--thinking something like Ham Sticks, then see what the tuner can load. This is still an unfinished project--maybe one of these days!

    Hi Mark -
I've been following your YouTube channel for some time now, and you have given me quite a bit of inspiration. Your work is much appreciated. I am curious about one thing - I see that you have a Yaesu 857D with an LDG antenna tuner, but I'd like to know which antenna you are using with that radio?

    Thanks for your time.
