Default Rookie in 2013 jku with 3.21's moab bound.

My wife and I are planning a week moab trip for the 3rd week in June. We are mid 50's good shape (both run etc) we are new to 4 wheeling and have a new jku. pretty much stock with the exception of 33" tires and 3/4" coil spacers up front and rubicon shocks. I used to do a lot of mountain biking in Moab in the late 80's and early 90's and my recollection is that there is a lot of extreme 4 wheeling. I am more looking at some mild stuff that will be scenic yet fun but not too much of a risk of damaging my new jeep. We plan on camping for the most part. So with the fact that my wrangler is pretty much stock with 3.21 gearing can expect. What trails should we do? thanks

Arches park has the 4x4 trails you are looking for. Look for eye of the whale and tower arch.

I might have worded my post wrong. I am new to Jeeps/wranglers but have some 4x4 experience in F150 and have done a ton of offroad solo travel on dual sports etc. I just don't want to beat my new wrangler up. I remember Mountain biking in Moab seeing all the scrapes on narrow passages etc.

I have a Sahara with 3.21 gears and 33" tires. I also have a 2.5" lift. I have done the 7 Mile Rim trail, Fins and Things, and Copper Canyon, and I think I could have done those with a stock vehicle.

thank you I will add them to the list. Did the 3.21's cause you any grief?

I have a 6 speed manual and have been driving stick for 31 years, so no. I'm sure 4.10's or 4.88's would have been great, but in 4LO and 1st gear I could do most obstacles without over use of the clutch or too much feathering. Even made it up Kenny's Climb on Fins and Things, which is a steep run. I am finding that my jeep already is more capable than my nerves allow, it really just goes wherever I point it. The Sahara transfer case did fine too, even with the lower ratio than the 4:1 Rubicon case.

I'm sure most hard-core guys would consider these runs too wimpy for them, but they had the right combination of challenge and scenery for my tastes.

Chicken Corners, Secret Spire, Gemini Bridges, Longs Canyon, Potash Road and Shaeffers Switchbacks are all easy and scenic trails that any stock JK can do. You will be fine with your setup. It can get hot during that time of year. Make sure you take plenty of water.

Another fun trail is Onion Creek. It's a laid back trail but you cross a creek 27 times not to mention the scenery is really beautiful. It's located outside of the canyon area around 20 miles or so out of Moab along the Colorado River. It's a really fun trail. Also there is Fins & Things which is a slick rock trail. My JKU has a leveling kit and 33" tires and I had no problem at all but it is a very slow going trail. I guess you can call it a beginners intro to slick rock. I only live around 3 1/2 hours from Moab and we go down a couple of times a year. Just take a camera, a nice lunch and plenty of water and enjoy. There's no place like it.
