2011 JKU 34's gear opinions
 
So I went with Toyo atII 285/75r17. LOVE them! I really like that they are 11.25 wide instead of 12.5. I want to regear ASAP. Not that it's to bad with 3.73. Deciding between 4.56, 4.88, 5.13. Mostly on road. But will do a little trail riding. Nothing crazy. Lol I don't like breaking things. I really lean towards 5.13. Then 35x12.5 is still an option some day. But with only .5" difference between the 34's and 35's I highly doubt it. Opinions welcome please!

If it's not too bad then why would you want to go to the max with a 5.13? Are we to assume you've got an auto the reason you're looking at such a high gear??

Definitely sounds right, 2011, 3.8, auto, 5.13z.

Buy the 35s man.

Yep it's an auto. The 3.73 isn't too bad but there is power lost.

Have you found the 'JK' specific gear charts? Measure your tires and plug the numbers in. (measured, not mfg spec or a generic 34")...

3.8 auto, and assuming the tires measure out to 33":
3.73 = 1835 rpm @ 70
5.13 = 2524 rpm @ 70

The OD ratio is .69, so if you turn it off:

1835/.69 = 2659 rpm @ 70

OD/Off is only 135 rpm more than you would have with 5.13's. Close enough for a decent comparison.

There are lots of variables involved: personal preference, how and where you drive, elevation, vehicle weight and setup, etc, etc, but 5.13 gets my vote for a 3.8 auto.

I recently put 35x12.5 ATZ P3s on my 2010 JKU. I went with the 5.13 gearing. I use mine mostly as a daily driver and I have been very happy. No loss of power. If you are going to get in there and change it, might as well go to the 5.13 and give yourself the option of 35s later on without an additional cost.

I have the same size tire on my 2010 with an auto. I'm running 4.56 and it's a lot better than the 3.73's. I would say fo 4.56 or 4.88 for a little more power. 5.13's are going to be way more than what you need/want. If you go the 4.56 route they tend to be about $100 more for the set due to not being a common size. I got everything I needed from 4ws.com because they didn't charge me more for that size. I don't plan on running 35's ever. Realistically they are 1/2"-1" taller when mounted, they are wider. Where I live I have to keep them under my fenders to pass inspection.

I read ALL 22 pages of the "34 club" thread last night and no one said anything about the gears they were running :dontknow2: going 5.13 extra ass would be nice... 37's after this set WHAAAAAT :thumbsup: lol don't thing I could justify that one! I blow waaaay to much on fishing trips and gear to throw money at a even bigger lift and beefy everything. I wouldn't be happy with the 5.13 then I would want a Dana 44 in front and 5.38 lol
